Studio Four Design was excited to work closely with the City of Knoxville in the creation of a new public park shelter and kayak launch shore structure for Suttree Landing Park. A strong effort was made to minimize site impact and place an emphasis on the use of natural light in the interior spaces as well as meeting all modern energy performance standards. Additionally, all the facilities were designed with a mindset to provide full accessibility so that all visitors can enjoy the same quality amenities throughout the park.

The first major component was the design of the public park shelter that included public restrooms and a warming kitchen for events. The large, extended roof of the building projects out and in towards the park, providing a shaded rest and rec area that includes fixed tables and seating to the many visitors enjoying the green spaces and outdoor paths that meander along the south shoreline of the Tennessee River. The second component of the project, the nearby shore structure, provides waterfront access to a floating kayak launch including ADA compliant ramps.
