Keller is retiring March 1,  after 15 years at Studio Four Design. He helped found the architecture and design firm in 2002 and has since served as CFO and vice president.

“Mike was a founding partner of our team, and his leadership has been instrumental in creating our unique brand and culture,” said Stacy Cox, President of Studio Four Design. “His vast experience and knowledge in planning and design has helped shape our company and accomplish its goals since 2002.”

Newport Utilities Lobby Comes to Life with the Help of Studio Four Design

Leading Knoxville architecture firm redesigned and created a new customer-friendly lobby area for Newport Utilities

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Feb. 2, 2018 – Studio Four Design, a top Knoxville-based architecture and design firm, helped bring to life a new customer-focused, interactive lobby area for Newport Utilities, in Newport, Tennessee.

The lobby was redesigned to put a spotlight on the Newport Utilities’ new offering of premise fiber optic cable broadband services. Previously, the lobby reflected a traditional utilities business, but now it’s an interactive experience center where customers can see and feel the superior performance of fiber broadband in data delivery, television viewing, and telephone service.

“The vision for this project was to improve the customer experience of visitors to our facility as we introduce fiber-optic broadband services to our community,” said Glenn Ray, general manager for Newport Utilities. “We were looking for a new, innovative way to interact with our customers, and Studio Four Design delivered that for us. The new high-tech lobby is engaging for our visitors and has freed up our customer service team to handle billing, utility service, and outage issues. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”

Studio Four Design’s philosophy behind the design is to provide a more welcoming environment for utility customers as they enter the building, introduce interactive kiosks to visitors, and allow customer service team members to focus more attention on patrons who have billing or outage questions.

The new lobby area features:

  • Interactive Television Display – The focal point of the experience area is the interactive television display that will be used for customer demonstrations and learning. A set of four television screens work together to form a large touch screen surface, and with the addition of a controller, can also work independently to display multiple messages.
  • Customer Service Workstations – The customer experience area incorporates two work stations for customer service representatives to complete customer orders. There is ample counter space to accommodate displays and product brochures, and the counters are a comfortable height for resting one’s arms. The area has sufficient storage cabinets and shelves to keep a convenient inventory of supplies to facilitate customer/agent interaction.
  • Promotional Display – A large screen television adjacent to the interactive television provides an appealing display for videos, presentations or programming content for customer service and marketing purposes.

“The interior design of any business or facility has a major impact on the customer experience of visitors and how employees interact with customers,” said Stacy Cox, president of Studio Four Design. “So when it comes to running a successful business, the design of your building and the interior space really matter. Our focus was on achieving the primary objectives of Newport Utilities through the creative and thoughtful design of its lobby area.”

Studio Four Design Team Wins Solomon Award for Church Design

Knoxville-based top architecture and design firm’s work on the Grace Baptist Church student ministry facility recognized by Worship Facilities Network with 2017 Solomon Award

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Oct. 24, 2017 – Studio Four Design, a top architecture and design firm based in Knoxville, Tennessee, that specializes in worship facilities, was awarded a 2017 Solomon Award for design by the Worship Facilities Network for their work on the Grace Baptist Church student ministry building in Knoxville. The announcement was made at the WFX Conference & Expo in Dallas, Oct. 11.

The award was presented in the category of Church Design – Youth and Children’s Spaces for facilities with 301 to 800 seats. The Grace Baptist Church project was begun in 2016 and completed earlier this year.

Grace Baptist leaders wanted the new environment to be relational and fun for the youth of their church. These ideas became key concepts for the design and construction team of Studio Four Design. They needed the new building to complement the transitional style and materials of the existing church campus buildings, but also to be uniquely its own to reflect the brand and identity of Grace Student Ministries.

“Expansion is a challenge for any church,” said Stacy Cox, President of Studio Four Design. “The leadership of Grace and their Student Ministry team had a strong vision, and it was our privilege to bring that vision to life. Our team did a great job of giving the new facility a look and feel that complimented the existing church, but at the same time, we were able to give it a generational vibe to resonate with the students who would enjoy spending time in the new space.”

The centerpiece of this facility is a new student auditorium. It provides room for more than 700 students in their mid-week service and is designed for a flexible arrangement of seating. Built at a cost of $3.5 million, Merit Construction was able to deliver this project on time and within the budget constraints of the church while working within a site in the center of an active church and Grace Christian Academy K-12 school, which is also located on the campus.

Studio Four Design previously won a Solomon Award in 2016 for their work on the Northstar Church South Knoxville campus expansion.

“The team at Studio Four Design is honored and humbled by winning another Solomon Award,” said Cox. “We cherish our relationships with churches like Grace Baptist and Northstar. It’s our passion to provide the very best environments for them through good architectural design which allows their facilities to be more effective tools for ministry.”

Oak Ridge Turns to Studio Four Design for 2 Major Projects

Knoxville-based top architecture and design firm’s expertise pivotal in helping the city of Oak Ridge plan and build two new projects to help youth and seniors

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Oct. 17, 2017 – Studio Four Design, a top architecture and design firm based in Knoxville, Tennessee, has been working with the City of Oak Ridge on two new projects to improve the quality of life for its citizens: a preschool facility and a senior center. The Oak Ridge City Council voted Oct. 9 on a resolution authorizing agreements with Studio Four Design to fund and move forward with both projects.

The resolution authorized contracts between the City of Oak Ridge and Studio Four Design for architectural, interior design and consulting engineering services for the new preschool building and the new senior center building. The projects are to be supported by more than $1 million in initial bond funding.

The Oak Ridge preschool is a 40,000 square foot project in the Scarboro Park area of the community and is budgeted for $10 million. The new $2.9 million, 11,000 square foot senior center will be built near the civic center area of Oak Ridge. Both projects are slated to break ground in May of 2018 with completion dates in 2019.

“It has been a pleasure working on these projects with Oak Ridge city officials and the people of the community,” said Jacene Phillips, senior project manager for Studio Four Design. “Studio Four has been working on this since the latter stages of site selection for both projects. We have presented concepts and updates at public meetings over the last several months, and we have enjoyed leading the discussions. We look forward to breaking ground and seeing the concepts become reality for the members of the community.”

The Oak Ridge preschool and senior center projects have been in development for several years, and city officials are now ready to move forward with the approved designs for both facilities.

“Jacene and the Studio Four Design team have worked diligently with City Council, city staff and the community on these projects,” said Mark Watson, Oak Ridge city manager. “We are looking forward to bringing these long-discussed facilities to fruition for our community. With continued leadership and creative energy of Studio Four Design, Oak Ridge citizens will be able to enjoy these facilities soon and well into the future.”

Metelka, a graduate of The University of Tennessee with a bachelor of science in interior design, brings experience from architectural firms in Memphis and Knoxville to her position with Studio Four Design.

I really have a familial relationship with everyone in the office.”

Metelka specializes in various aspects of interior design including health care, education, and corporate.
