Studio Four Design Team Wins Solomon Award for Church Design

Knoxville-based top architecture and design firm’s work on the Grace Baptist Church student ministry facility recognized by Worship Facilities Network with 2017 Solomon Award

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Oct. 24, 2017 – Studio Four Design, a top architecture and design firm based in Knoxville, Tennessee, that specializes in worship facilities, was awarded a 2017 Solomon Award for design by the Worship Facilities Network for their work on the Grace Baptist Church student ministry building in Knoxville. The announcement was made at the WFX Conference & Expo in Dallas, Oct. 11.

The award was presented in the category of Church Design – Youth and Children’s Spaces for facilities with 301 to 800 seats. The Grace Baptist Church project was begun in 2016 and completed earlier this year.

Grace Baptist leaders wanted the new environment to be relational and fun for the youth of their church. These ideas became key concepts for the design and construction team of Studio Four Design. They needed the new building to complement the transitional style and materials of the existing church campus buildings, but also to be uniquely its own to reflect the brand and identity of Grace Student Ministries.

“Expansion is a challenge for any church,” said Stacy Cox, President of Studio Four Design. “The leadership of Grace and their Student Ministry team had a strong vision, and it was our privilege to bring that vision to life. Our team did a great job of giving the new facility a look and feel that complimented the existing church, but at the same time, we were able to give it a generational vibe to resonate with the students who would enjoy spending time in the new space.”

The centerpiece of this facility is a new student auditorium. It provides room for more than 700 students in their mid-week service and is designed for a flexible arrangement of seating. Built at a cost of $3.5 million, Merit Construction was able to deliver this project on time and within the budget constraints of the church while working within a site in the center of an active church and Grace Christian Academy K-12 school, which is also located on the campus.

Studio Four Design previously won a Solomon Award in 2016 for their work on the Northstar Church South Knoxville campus expansion.

“The team at Studio Four Design is honored and humbled by winning another Solomon Award,” said Cox. “We cherish our relationships with churches like Grace Baptist and Northstar. It’s our passion to provide the very best environments for them through good architectural design which allows their facilities to be more effective tools for ministry.”

Oak Ridge Turns to Studio Four Design for 2 Major Projects

Knoxville-based top architecture and design firm’s expertise pivotal in helping the city of Oak Ridge plan and build two new projects to help youth and seniors

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Oct. 17, 2017 – Studio Four Design, a top architecture and design firm based in Knoxville, Tennessee, has been working with the City of Oak Ridge on two new projects to improve the quality of life for its citizens: a preschool facility and a senior center. The Oak Ridge City Council voted Oct. 9 on a resolution authorizing agreements with Studio Four Design to fund and move forward with both projects.

The resolution authorized contracts between the City of Oak Ridge and Studio Four Design for architectural, interior design and consulting engineering services for the new preschool building and the new senior center building. The projects are to be supported by more than $1 million in initial bond funding.

The Oak Ridge preschool is a 40,000 square foot project in the Scarboro Park area of the community and is budgeted for $10 million. The new $2.9 million, 11,000 square foot senior center will be built near the civic center area of Oak Ridge. Both projects are slated to break ground in May of 2018 with completion dates in 2019.

“It has been a pleasure working on these projects with Oak Ridge city officials and the people of the community,” said Jacene Phillips, senior project manager for Studio Four Design. “Studio Four has been working on this since the latter stages of site selection for both projects. We have presented concepts and updates at public meetings over the last several months, and we have enjoyed leading the discussions. We look forward to breaking ground and seeing the concepts become reality for the members of the community.”

The Oak Ridge preschool and senior center projects have been in development for several years, and city officials are now ready to move forward with the approved designs for both facilities.

“Jacene and the Studio Four Design team have worked diligently with City Council, city staff and the community on these projects,” said Mark Watson, Oak Ridge city manager. “We are looking forward to bringing these long-discussed facilities to fruition for our community. With continued leadership and creative energy of Studio Four Design, Oak Ridge citizens will be able to enjoy these facilities soon and well into the future.”

Studio Four Design Creates New Space for Wieniewitz Financial

Studio Four Design - Wieniewitz Financial - Knoxville TennesseeKnoxville-based financial advisory firm teams up with premier local architecture and design firm to design new office space

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. March 21, 2017 – Wieniewitz Financial, a Knoxville-based financial advisory firm, is expanding to a new office at 1606 Schaeffer Road, Suite 100, off of Pellissippi Parkway and Lovell Road, designed by top local architecture and design firm Studio Four Design.

The new 7,000 square foot office building, built by Stethen-Smith Construction, is entirely owned by Wieniewitz Financial, with the firm’s offices taking up four of the six office bays.

“Visibility and a need for additional space are why we decided to make the move,” said Trae Wieniewitz, president and owner of Wieniewitz Financial. “We were also able to work out a great deal on the real estate with the help of Roger Moore, who eventually connected us with Studio Four Design.”

Studio Four Design created the architectural drawings for the building and also designed the interior of the space.

“I can tell you what I want, but I don’t know what’s reasonable to expect to stay within budget,” said Wieniewitz. “Studio Four’s project manager, Jacene Phillips, did an excellent job of keeping me in the loop and a part of the process, without overcomplicating the decisions. And Jenna Wise, Studio Four’s interior designer, was able to take our photos and suggestions and help us achieve the look and feel we wanted to have when clients come to our office. All in all, it was a great experience. They kept a good line of communication with everyone and helped manage the project so I could focus on my business.”

Studio Four Design - Wieniewitz Financial - InteriorIn addition to the office space, Wieniewitz Financial will also have a group education and training center for catered lunch and learns, breakfast seminars, and outside group meetings, as well as a state of the art fitness center for Wieniewitz Financial employees to round off their corporate wellness program.

“Trae likes people to feel comfortable in his office,” said Stacy Cox, president of Studio Four Design. “So while this was a commercial project, it’s got a residential feel with a lot of great textures. There’s also a beautiful, dramatic tile feature wall in his lobby that will have signage on it. It will make quite the impression when people first walk in.”

The other two office bays are available to anyone looking for professional office space (up to 2,500 square feet) and build out is available for one or both bays. To inquire about the space available, call 865-691-2433.

Finding a Design you can love

The design teams at Knoxville-based Studio Four Design have worked by our mantra of Design Matters for clients in a number of industries and one of the most common themes that we have found in our experience is the importance of finding a design that you can love. With today being Valentine’s Day, love can mean a number of different things to different people, but when you are creating a space for your retail or restaurant business, having a design that you love can mean all of the difference in the world.

Loving your retail or restaurant design doesn’t mean that you have to spend an exorbitant amount on your exterior and interior designs; loving your retail or restaurant design means finding a combination of functionality, practicality and personality that can help you differentiate your business from your competitors, offering an inviting atmosphere that welcomes your customers and looking at your retail or restaurant location with pride each and every day.

Before offering a design for your retail or restaurant space, the teams at Studio Four Design meet with clients to help them determine the best strategy to help deliver the finished product that they would like to own. There are a number of factors that need to be considered for both retail and restaurant spaces, including:

Real Estate Requirements:
If a client has an existing piece of property that they are going to use, what are the requirements for the space? Is the infrastructure in place, from utilities to parking space, to support the project? Are there requirements for building exteriors that must be followed to be in compliance? While there may be limitations placed upon the designs, based upon local codes, the teams at Studio Four Design can work within these requirements to meet the vision that our clients have in mind.

Franchise Regulations:
If the new space is a part of a franchise agreement, understanding the franchise requirements that are in place is a key component of the design. While some franchises have few restrictions on what can be done for a new locations, others have more stringent demands on what can and can’t be done for a franchise location. Although franchisors may demand certain conditions for their franchisees, the team at Studio Four Design can help maximize opportunities for our clients for design.

Interior Design:
One aspect of retail and restaurant design that is often overlooked, but is extremely important to showcase your space, is the choices related to interior design. Incorporating an interior design plan that welcomes customers, highlights your products or menu choices and helps to create a feeling of hospitality that will allow your retail or restaurant space to not only entice customers to visit, but to encourage them to return. The interior design teams at Studio Four Design have worked with clients across industries to deliver designs that exceeds our customers’ expectations while following code guidelines and requirements related to the specific customer needs.

While no two retail or restaurant spaces are the same, our team at Studio Four Design has worked with our clients to deliver outstanding results using our mantra that Design Matters. If you are planning a retail or restaurant project and are interested in leveraging the award winning capabilities of our design staff, contact Studio Four Design today to learn how we can assist you with your next project.
