UT Stokely Management Center

project type: education

location: knoxville, tn

size: 10,700 sf

year complete: 2020

The University of Tennessee’s Department of Business Analytics and Statistics in the Stokely Management Center needed a significant update to effectively represent program achievements, improve the function of their processes, and appeal to incoming students. Studio Four Design was trusted with the project and enthusiastically embarked on the planning and design process.

The design was nearly completed when the project was met with budgetary constraints when the pandemic hit in March 2020. With a determination to move ahead, donors united to allow the project to continue. The newly designed space includes new finishes, lighting, and glass doors to allow daylight to permeate the interior of the building where students spend their time. Two zones, differentiated into a collaborative/group study area and a designated focus space, are effectively divided with a conference room in the center that can be reserved by staff and students. Creative furniture solutions reconfigured and transformed the space without the need for construction, and the lobby was updated to provide a more welcoming appearance. A modular feature wall to recognize donors allows annual updates and highlights various tiers of donors.

The completed space is attractive, highly functional, and reflects the history and achievements of the Department of Business Analytics and Statistics team while supporting their future growth.
