Studio Four Design Provides Design for New Kern’s Bakery Food Hall Tenants
Leading Knoxville-based architecture firm works with tenants in preparation for opening of new food hall in South Knoxville
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – November 3, 2022 – Studio Four Design is excited to play an integral role in the development and completion of the new Kern’s Bakery Food Hall, scheduled for opening in June 2023. The historic Knoxville landmark has been reimagined and the building shell designed by Johnson Architecture. Studio Four Design has been chosen by many of the new vendors to create unique, branded stalls for individual businesses to represent their food and product offerings. The newly redesigned facility is one that the owners envision as a “vibrant destination”, where visitors can come for not only a meal and shopping, but find a place of connection with their community, a convenient workspace, or a gathering space for groups.
Located in the New South Knoxville Waterfront District, the new Kern’s Bakery Food Hall will combine the historic and distinctive art deco elements found in the original 1931 building design with new, modern, customized details representative of each vendor. The building will house a 20-merchant food hall including full-service restaurants and unique vendors, with abundant seating and workspace located throughout. A spacious outdoor gathering and entertainment area, two rooftop patios, a dog park, and other amenities will offer space for visitors to linger and enjoy a variety of activities and entertainment. With its close proximity to Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness, the downtown area, and the University of Tennessee, visitors will enjoy the easily accessible location with free onsite parking, free high-speed internet, and a nearby municipal deck connected with a planned pedestrian bridge.
Using an individualized approach, Studio Four Design is providing a customized focus on each vendor, their needs, and visions for their spaces. The defined, limited stall space means that every decision is purposeful and critical to the success of the design. As Architectural Designer Rose Gowder described, the effort is on “maximizing opportunity in each space for things like signage and inch-by-inch detail.” Whether clients desire extra prep space or want to incorporate a creative social media wall, each design is uniquely tailored to the business owner. Working with a variety of vendors, like Captain Muchachos, Hey Bear Café, Won Kitchen, and Irvey’s Ice Cream, Studio Four Design is enjoying the distinctive design process for each business to help them maximize their potential in the new location.
The Kern’s Bakery Food Hall presents the type of project that Studio Four Design is particularly passionate about – helping small business owners who have invested their resources into a dream and helping bring that to reality. The opportunity to build relationships with clients and their families is a uniquely rewarding process and privilege for the Studio Four Design team.
